Secret 7" Entry: Diana Ross & The Supremes-Reflections

  • John Dewey
Every year the Secret 7" project takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and press each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”. 700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece raising funds for the Nordoff Robbins charity. You don't know who created the sleeve, or even which song it's for, until you have parted with your cash - the secret lies within. Over 4,500 sleeve designs entries were sent to them this year and there is only room for 100 of each track in the show. Unfortunately my entry was not selected for the exhibition. I chose to create a sleeve for Diana Ross & The Supremes song 'Reflections.' This was the first release from the wonderful world of Motown and the band's first with Diana as the main billing in 1967. This is an extended stereo version of the psychedelic pop single that has never been pressed to vinyl. My design takes inspiration from the lyrics. I have chosen to use reflections of the singer's inside a mind using a psychedelic feel.
