My father works as a security trainer and consultant for agencies working in enviroments affected by war, social unrest or natural disaster amongst other things. These agencies tend to be NGO's, ethical lawyers or groups attempting to provide renewable energy, clean water supplies or medical infratsructure in difficult places. Part of his work is, "in the field" but part of it involves running complex simulation courses in the UK and France. For many years I have helped out as an actor on these courses which train participants in everything from effective communication and understanding cultural sensitivities to advanced first aid and how to deal with child soldiers or being kidnapped. I am now at a point where I feel comfortable giving a little feedback to participants who may have fairly extensive field experience and I feel this is a positive thing for me. As it is so different to what I usually do it requires me to use my head in a different way and I have learnt a lot.
