Serge Bollard paysagiste is a small company that provide garden design and landscaping in the south of France. They do a lot of service in the community and wanted an explainer video to showcase all the services they offer. The guidelines were pretty loose as they didn’t had experience with making video, they gave me “Carte blanche” to create a great video.
I worked closely with them to shape the script, to encapsulate want they wanted to convey. In the meantime from all the discussions we had I came up with several graphic approach to the video. Designed a couple of shots and showed a sample of what the finished product will look like. Once they were happy with the script and the demo shots I jumped into production.
We agreed on a cartoony look for the video, they wanted bright and vivid colors that will match the vibe of the south of France. The first half of the video which consisted on a brief presentation of the company was executed pretty quickly. However the part where we list all the services took some time to get it right.
The challenge there was to enumerate all kind of services in small amount of time. So we came up with an elegant solution: divide the screen in 4 section and with little animations to illustrate the service. That way it’s not just a list of services, but a way of presenting each service in their context.
All the design were created in Photoshop splitted in differents layers and imported in After Effects for the final animation.
The video was an success, the client incorporated the video in is landing page: sergebollard.fr
He then cut various little clips from the video to boost his social medias. The video is also displayed in the client’s store and featured on shows and conventions he attends.
Working on that project made me realize how important it is to create a visual look and guidelines before dive into production. The “Carte Blanche” aspect of the video can slow you down and you can be lost with too much freedom,so it’s crucial to create yourself a sandbox where you can create design and practical shots.
