Skeel Library

  • Alysha Davies

Prime property located in Hampstead which used to function as a library for the womens college. I researched Caroline Skeel and her work in botanics which then fueled my take on a quintessentially british librarian home. This project has won numerous awards including Best Show Home Interiors at What House and Best London and UK Show Home.

Probably my favourite room in the property is the narrow skinny room which used to function as a linking corridor to the old canteen. It had a natural niche in the wall which we believe used to house trophies which we turned into a bookshelf with built in soft seating. This room was heavily inspired by one of my favourite books - The Secret Garden - and with it, we created a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle in the rest of the house, heavy with lush florals and patterns.
