SKINNOSH DESIGN AT CONTEMPORARY CLUSTER

  • Anna Kioumourtzi

As a space which overcomes the traditional criteria of Art, Contemporary Cluster is glad to present to the Roman art and fashion scene SKINNOSH. Opening on the 17 th and closing on the 21 ST of May 2018, the Cluster will perform as host to this avantgarde brand which is originally located in Munich, Germany. Combining the traditional notion of 19 th century artisanship with innovative concepts and techniques, SKINNOSH creates unique pieces of exclusively handmade bags and leather accessories. Unconventional, brutal yet elegant and contemporary SKINNOSH products follow an exceptionally detailed creating process, with the designer himself in charge of crafting each product thus appreciating the complexity of the traditional handmade procedure. Giving out a primitive and minimalistic vibe, all products embrace the urban aesthetic and combine functionality with high quality and classic design. Following regular lines SKINNOSH chooses the best Italian leather along with raw materials like copper and .925 silver which contribute to an excellent and life lasting result. Exploring a darker side of urban fashion and fusing together hard yet refined materials and textures SKINNOSH is more than a handmade leather goods brand. It transforms into an idea, an experience establishing a strong bond between the product and the customer. Using vegetable tanned Italian leather and ensuing a step by step individual dyeing of each piece before they are handstitched with a linen thread and two needles, all done by hand and exclusively at the brand’s atelier in Munich. With the name of collection being “The Path to Insanity” the designer engages his artistic nature and explores different mental states, through the use of one model which compiles into six divergent pieces/menta states. The viewer experiences the mental journey going through its every phase. From the most understated, sanity, to the destroyed mental state of insanity. By evolving towards more outgoing and artistic shapes and colors, finally ending in a completely destroyed piece, the collection showcases 3 different paths, hinting to the fact that the journey to insanity can be different for every person. The installation provokes the viewer to judge their own mental state and challenge the status quo of thinking and behaving in a normal and rational manner. From the avantgarde atelier in Munich to the Contemporary Cluster, the SKINNOSH exhibition is giving us a chance to explore and experience the strength and limits of human mentality while questioning the society’s common notion of thinking, with fashion becoming one with contemporary art.
