Organising and maximising desk workspaces for student accommodation to improve work efficiency.

1 Week_Individual Project // Design Week // Loughborough University
SLOT delievers an organised working experience specifically for a laptop or keyboard. The product design incorporates a foldable surface to provide students with additional space to take notes for their studies from material such as online lectures in their rooms. This effectively reduces clutter, and improves student environment organisation.
" I chose to create a product that would be as inclusive as possible for a general student. Particularly focusing on the space limitations in student bedrooms, I chose to focus on maximising space of study. "

Early Prototyping // Investigating the incorporation of a live hinge, through paper card, grey cardboard and foam board modelling.
  • Different shapes tested to understand innovative forms to create a suitable folding mechanism.
  • A variation of materials were explored to understand how the design with a live hinge would be applied.
Product features //
  • A smooth slant profile to fit to the body of any laptop/ tablet with curved edges to support the digital component whilst in use.
  • Minimal pen slot designed to fit the movement of the natural product direction.
  • Clear panel ensuring keyboard can be viewed whilst note taking in progress.
Ideation development // Digital concepts to grasp material selection and aesthetic features.
Scenario of Use // how the product will specifically aid a designer's workspace to increase work flow and clarity of mind.
In-Use Product Render // Depicting how another user environment could utilise the product within a limited space.
