SOFT ROCK: Cat's Cradle

  • Ami Fall

A 2020 revised edition of a 2018-19 project. Soft Rock is a project exploring the human body's relationship to the built environment. The concept of the Cat's Cradle was born out of my initial attraction to the idea of entanglement and entrapment. The idea that we can alter one's physical experience within the concrete walls that engulf us in my eyes, could give people a new sense of spatial awareness, especially considering the work-oriented, grey and often mundane atmosphere that the city brings to some people. Creating an installation that toys with people's perception of space and proportions forces people to actually look up from their phones and experience interpersonal spatial awareness, whilst walking through an iconic brutalist cityscape.
