Somewhere Between Here and Nowhere

  • Guy Gunstone
Photography is a language that provides a system of understanding; one that is built upon empiricism, where seeing – the visual sense created by the eye - is what creates signals for knowledge. These photographs can be seen as a study of ambiguity and form, an attempt to pick away at the exterior of the object. By photographing at night and using the flash this acts as a vignette, creating a focus on what is shown and what is understood. By not being anchored in place the images lose grounding and become void of context and through lack of information being revealed, a barrier of understanding is created for the viewer.
