STAY AND PLAY

Stay And Play is a project that came from a university client brief that was set by publishing collective Public Source. The brief wanted us to document what kinship meant to us. Being from small village in the midlands and wanted to capture the sense of community you feel or maybe don’t feel went coming from a close nit area like a village. In my case, that I didn’t feel. I used the lack of community spirit, teamed with my love of graphics to try and created my own parish magazine. The mag was inspired the ‘naff’ graphics that I was so drawn to around the village like neon price and sale signs that are up in the window of the local chippy, poking fun at the shoddy graphics but also but also recognise that most of the posters and banners are a source of information and to advertise low funded community groups. During the project, I held little focus groups and workshops that were art based for children as there are no and have been no local art or design groups since I was a child, creating a sense of community that I felt a lack of, while also featuring some of the children work in my zine.
