Structure & the City Publication

  • Clara Davis

This piece of editorial design documents my research into Art Deco London as a response to a brief titled 'Structure and the City'. For this project, I was required to explore an element of the city that utilises grids and structure inherently within its design to highlight the importance of grids not just within the city, but within design as a whole. As a lover of the Art Deco era, I focused on researching Art Deco architecture in London, looking particularly at the external structure of the buildings and the geometric patterns that decorate their exterior. This publication is not only a celebration of Art Deco architecture, but also an exercise in perfecting the designers use of grids and structure, typographic hierarchies and detailing, and visual grammar within the layout of the publication. The images and text throughout interact in a way that allows for easy reading, but also provides an eye-catching layout that brings flow to the publication.
