Sushistory - Timeline

  • Michelle Chong Jiahui
Brief: "To create a Timeline (a simple, graphical way of showing a series of events or changes) which should be engaging and visually stimulating."

I selected sushi as my subject for this project and named my timeline "Sushistory" as a form of word play, which can be read as sushistory or sushistory. I first started researching on sushi and gathered as many facts for the timeline, e.g. Sushi was originated in Thailand and not Japan. I wanted my timeline to be engaging, thus I decided to create a website.

I then set myself a challenge, which is to use illustration as my graphic execution. I spend about 3 days just illustrating sushi as illustration was not in my comfort zone of execution. I had neutral colours as my background to enhance the contrast knowing that the colours of the sushi varies and my impression of Japan was a land of spring (clean and fresh).

I was also inspired by the modern invention of the conveyor belt, thus I made my timeline move as a .gif and having sushi moving along it. Lastly, make my timeline even more engaging, I included buttons and video so user can interact with the timeline and gain more knowledge regarding my subject rather than just scrolling all the way.

This is another experimentation with Adobe Muse + horizontal scrolling.
