Symbol - Sign - Clue | Master Degree Project
My master degree project consist of Augmented Reality elements, animations, prints and code designs, based on traditional Ukrainian embroidery.
The Brief
The theme is related to events in Ukraine in 2013/2014.
Inspiration for this idea were my Ukrainian friends, on whom those events had direct impact. We talked a lot about their culture, traditions and its importance in their life. They shared with me their thoughts and concerns. The basis of my project is a message, that they wanted to pass to their Ukrainian peers in country and abroad.
The Challenge
- To use art and folk handicraft
- To encode a message in traditional embroidery in order to pass hidden content
- Spread the symbols of Ukrainian culture among the young, for unity and solidarity promotion to raising awareness of their identity
The first element was the construction of patterns, which I based on the existing alphabet written in traditional embroidery. I created several versions of embroidery for each word, then I chose the most suitable for the whole composition.
