This is a Masters project which explores the potential of 3D printing into medical applications, specifically for spine injuries. The outcome is made from Polyamide and 3D printed in one shot, requiring no post processing. The injury area is scanned and a 3D model is then utilised to determine by a surgeon where the most important areas of support are needed. The fifth image shows a heat sink, which determines the level of flex allowed across the spine. This is the first prototype which has led to several exhibitions showings in Australia as well as abroad in America.
