A vidoe made in collaboration with classmates for the Sony Music Bug
competition for the band Hurts, we decided to choose the song ‘The Crow’.
It was the longest track and gave us a very slow build up to work with.
The song is about the protagonist losing touch with his loved one.
But cannot seem to let her go. She has a hold on him. We decided to focus on the idea of how memory takes a toll on oneself, and to focus on the afterthought of objects.
We used a combination of macro-lensed filming, green screen and after
effects. The up-close filming helped to convey the intensity of the memories of being so close to your thoughts. After effects and green screen was used to show the “melting memories embedded in the objects. We wanted to convey a sentimental idea with a cold, and surreal look to the video. We collected pre-loved objects and spray-painted them white to give an overall ethereal look, a landscape of objects to represent the detached and melancholic quality of of the song.
