The death of Venus (Installation-performance)

  • Tanausu Herrera

In this Installation, Tanausu created a ritualistic performance in solitude in a park bench, creating a ritual devoid of any meaning, drawing from Ancient symbolism, Paganism, Zen and Catholic Idolatry, Tanausu here creates his own death ritual. In many traditions around the world there are countless examples of rituals created around sacrifices, death and the afterlife, experiences created by men to signify something that intrinsically lacks any truth, what for some cultures means an expression of divinity or 'afterlife' has no validity to others, therefore rendering any and all beliefs around rituals void of truth. To have no image, no illusion, no action based on conceptual thought, beyond myth and tradition is what Tanausu explores in his work as a way to uncover Truth, to reveal what's truly sacred. When all religious texts are read and all rituals are done, what's left beyond the thinking mind, beyond all beliefs? What is true?
