The Delian Mode

  • Harry Wakeling
An exhibition celebrating the life of Delia Derbyshire, an electronic music pioneer. Delia’s music consisted of looping sound on bits of tape; the theme of looping influences the entire exhibition, particularly the floorplan that has no definitive beginning or end.
I created two models to indicate the scale of the exhibition, as well as the styles I am influenced by; brutalist architecture and science fiction from the 1970’s.
The theme of looping is evident in the promotional material for the exhibition, for example in the posters by having the type disappear off the page. It is also evident in the leaflets that will be handed out in each room; the pages are connected in such a way that they fold back on themselves, creating an infinite loop.
