The Observer

  • Helen Smithson
How can we break our vast landscapes down to a small pocket size guide? With this project I am attempted to challenge the way we look at our coastlines, by deconstructing an old pocket ‘Observer’s Guide to the Sea Shore’ and the text within it to highlight the unseen, overlooked aspects of the landscape. Creating a series of images and text diptychs that question the power of text on changing the meaning of an image.
