The brief was to design and construct books for the classic texts, ‘The Iliad’ and ‘The Odyssey’, attributed to Homer in the 8th Century BC. The ripped dustcover on ‘The Iliad’ captures the violent nature of the storyline and the irrational violence shown by the characters. In contrast, ‘The Odyssey’ is based around restoring what had been destroyed during the Trojan war. Gold foil, the exact shape and of the rip, was applied to the dustcover to symbolise the theme of restoration. Each handbound hardcover book contains 10 signatures.
