The Packaging box that changed my life
This is the story of how an online retail website packaging box changed my life and career. In 2016 I ordered several pairs of socks, underwear and a pair of jeans from an International Menswear online retailer Mr. Porter.com The items arrived in a beautiful white sturdy packaging box. The type of box that you know it feels guilty to dispose of it.

In 2016 I ordered several pairs of socks, underwear and a couple of jeans from the International Menswear online retailer MrPorter.com
The items arrived in a beautiful white sturdy packaging box. The type of box that you know it feels guilty to dispose of.
After days of thinking of ways to make the box useful but still show its beauty, I came up with the idea to modify the box into a fully functional briefcase
Mr Porter had reshared my picture to their 1 million followers! I couldn’t believe it, the notification was out of control I grew by 9,000 followers, and my Instagram private messages and comments were filled with questions about where did I get the briefcase? You see, I didn’t mention I created it, and I assumed someone in charge of Mr Porter social media team thought I had bought it from the site or maybe I earned it working for them.
Well in fact I know they thought I bought it from them because a week later I was invited to one their private parties where they showcase several brands they sold on the website and one of the staff members of Mr Porter asked me if my briefcase was a new or old season. I said it new; in fact, it’s the only one that exists!
Someone overheard me, and It quickly gained attention at the party.
Influencers and staff were taking pictures with the Mr Porter briefcase.
I later spoke to several influencers who was probably being paid to attend the event, and they told me about the jobs and how they earn money posting content online for brands. It quickly piqued my interest, and I thought I would love to be paid to create more stuff!
So I did, one week later KLM airlines partnered with South Africa’s Tourism Board and asked me to join them at Johannesburg Fashion Week for ten days with all expenses paid! Hotels, Flights, food at a different restaurant every night, taxi services and tours of Joburg.
That was the beginning of my of a new career path for me. I then would then later be invited on countless trips around the world, feature in 3 television commercials. Being paid to create content for brands and even signed a 2 -year ambassadors deal with David Beckham’s whiskey, Haig Club.
