The Parish

What if localism was pushed to the illogical extreme? While researching for this brief I found a publication called 'The Parish Boundary', which says that we should celebrate our local parishes, and the borders around them. Historically hedges, walls and forestry has separated people, but with nowaday’s focus on international borders and the rise of nationalism, could we learn from this smaller way of experiencing territory? Using speculative design, I applied the ideology found in extreme nationalism to the fictional parishes of 'Brecaster' and 'Riglyng', in order to tell a story of culture, highlight the problems of nationalism, and make people reconsider how community boundaries play a role within identity.
