The Space Race / Bravado

  • Ellen Boyce
The aim for this brief was to create a typographic manifesto to visually represent a word, in which mine was bravado. I decided to create a book with the concept of the space race and the Moon Speech by Kennedy in 1962. I wanted to represent this word in every aspect of the book - for example the chosen paper; which is thick back card and a higher weight tracing paper for the symbolism of a harder outer and a delicate inner. I designed the layout of the book would be the phases of the moon as you read through the speech. I laser cut out circles on the black card, with the speech printed onto the tracing paper along with my illustrations of the moon (seen through the cut out circle before you turn the page).
