The Walk

  • Marvin Serwanga

“Nice day isn’t it?” Marlene asks, she looks at her partner with affection as they walk through the serene park. “Yes it is, very lovely” says her partner Noah. The park is mostly clear, surrounded by tall trees with long limbs that stretch into the heavens. This park is a special place for them. A place to reflect on their memories while planning their future. They walk past a particular tree, it’s older with arms that twist and wrap around another. Marlene looks at it with intrigue, she notices it’s uniqueness. They walk on and she notices it again. The same tree with the same arms, it’s bizarre but they continue on, Noah speaks but Marlene doesn’t hear. They walk further and she sees the exact same tree again, as if it’s walking with them. “Marlene are you alright?” Noah asks. “That’s weird, I thought we walked past that tree already,” says Marlene. Noah turns and looks “what tree?” Marlene looks for it, it’s nowhere to be seen. Marlene shakes her head. “I must be seeing things,” she says.
