The West II

  • Simon Carter

The drought has continued in Colorado since early 2017. Raising cattle and running ranches has become a Herculean task. Each week their livelihoods are balanced on a knife-edge as water supplies has to be driven in to keep cattle alive. The lack of rain on higher ground where winter feed is grown has meant a shortage f and increased prices for feed. Despite all this the grit of the men and women who love their lifestyle, land and animals shows through. Silent hope shines through and a closely knoit community looking out for each other is an example for us all. The annual roundup of all new calves is a moment for the community to come together, share knowledge, support and celebrate their continuing efforts to keep the traditions of the west alive.
