Issey Miyake’s Homme Plissé for SSENSE
SSENSE commissioned Thomas Traum to create a short CGI film to reveal the technological splendor of the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Spring 2016 Collection. The studio reimagined the clothing focusing on the line’s innovation on textiles and cut.
The idea was inspired by the simplicity of Issey Miyake’s clothes, expressed in particular through the images created by Irving Penn for Miyake’s collections in the ‘80s. In our film, we wanted to create a modern high-tech take of their approach, but keeping the spirit of these images created decades earlier. We wanted to strip the film back to the core essence: Clothes as a container and amplifier of the human body in movement.

A Tribute to the Japanese Subcultures of the Past and Present
With the 2016 Fall/Winter season, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon paid homage to Japan and Kenzo’s founder Kenzo Takada. Influenced by japanese countercultures dear to Takada and by the respect of Japanese people for their heritage, their prints brought us to explore the collection through a unique storyline: Through the eyes of our heroine we are wandering through Tokyo’s small back alleys lit by blinking neons, losing ourselves in a huge tokyo superclub, sneaking down into a shibari room, falling into a sea full of cherry blossoms to end with a tribute to powerful women. On the back of our success with last seaons’ film we wanted to have even more of a narrative continuously flowing through all patterns. Each pattern was treated as an environment, a world the character passes through and experiences, and together they form a hyper colored trip through this season’s KENZO.

Thomas Traum x Uniqlo x Its Nice That : New Perspectives
Three minimal loops we made as part of a series called New Perspectives by It’s Nice That responding to a Uniqlo product of our choice. We visualised three unique properties of the product in an unique way: Water repellent, UV-Protection and Foldable. Its Nice That have done a really nice write-up of the project with their usual editorial quality.

KENZO SS16 – Prints Video
✈ Travel through the Digital Folklore of the KENZO-SS16 Prints
The collection’s main theme is travel, which we wanted to follow in our video. We combined the different prints into one story, one epic travel through various environments and styles all bound together by a camera relentlessly moving forward.Memories of trips through Arabic and pan-African culture with a pop twist, merged with local folklore such as pixelated Vichy or sporty houndstooth. A contemporary cultural hybrid, for a citizen of a new world.
