Three models of memory in their context of media–historical development.

Beginning with the natural processes of human memories, the thesis analyses the cultural development to the contemporary information age. Researching the kind of ways human kind deliver information and how the original cognitive abilities been expanded with technological inventions. All three models presenting mnemonic strategies, using strong topographical and visual methods.

The first model was developed in the Renaissance and was specified as an theatre of memory. The analog model is the precursor for nowadays structures of interactive user-experiences, because it is based on strong topographical and visual methods.

The digital “Spatial-Data-Management-System” is the second memory model. It was developed in the Sixties by a team of scientests at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and presents the first steps of the computer technology.

The layout of the thesis also presents a topographical approach, while references and pictorial material are set according to the content of the main text.
