Through the Pipeline

  • Laura Bartlett
Through the Pipeline is an animated film that depicts oil extraction in the Amazon Rainforest and its impacts on indigenous communities. This film challenges the conventional documentary genre as it uses a fictional character to tell the story through a voiceover and flashbacks. The main character, Rosa, reflects on her memories of the forest before the oil companies arrived and shows us the destruction and health repercussions caused by oil spills. Although this work has a fictional quality, it holds a basis in reality- true stories from the book Crude Reflections (2008, Dematteis, Szymczak, Sting, Styler).
