To Build a Fire

Short Story, Editorial Project.
To Build a Fire by Jack London follows a man and his canine companion on their treacherous journey through the Yukon. My design takes on this story and illustrates it through a hand-bound concertina book.  Pocket size, it represents the format of a map that an explorer would find in ones kit. The fold out design allows the reader to follow the journey of the pair seamlessly from one side to another, as the story has been reduced into a condensed version.  Drawn illustrations and lino cuts accompany the hand-written typography that was used to emphasise the idea of being written by the man himself on his travel. The use of matches was apparent within the story, and so the book is packaged in a matchbox style case, opening through a pull out draw.
