To Kill a Mockingbird, Book Cover

  • Dan Brown
This was a project for the Adult Fiction Cover Award for To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. We were tasked to create a cover from a fresh perspective and avoiding the obvious iconography typically known in the book. Of which I did two versions.
This design was based off a later scene in the novel, a very iconic and pivotal point of Scout in a Ham suit heading home through the woods. The scene is well known by fans and yet overlooked fairly often. It was a unique take and fit in more with Penguins style so I entered this for the competition.
This version was digitally painted with Photoshop using a technique similar to oil painting (without the mess). I enjoyed painting this but as it depicted the typical imagery I did not submit this as I could only submit one.
