To Pimp a Butterfly / Studio album by Kendrick Lamar

  • Gurnam Singh

This album has a deeper metaphorical meaning than it suggests. The album represents Kendrick’s struggle to nd a way out of a life of crime and gang culture. I tried to portray this struggle by the use of two sides of the cover. One side representing the struggle, through the skull and the bloods red bandana. The other side represents the blossoming of a caterpillar into a butter y, thus ending the cycle of struggle.

I started with a hand drawn sketch of my design, before remastering it digitally using Adobe Illustrator.
