During the residency at TOAST (Manchester) I was interested in challenging the traditional format of an exhibition and encouraging the viewer to interact with the space, approach and move around the work differently, keen to ignite curiosity and exploration within the viewers .
Exhibiting process as practice is something I feel is not done enough and I wanted to enable visitors to experience ‘the storm before the calm’ - presenting studio methods as artwork.
'The Edge of An Idea was an installation created from materials used whilst creating finished artwork. I used the space during the residency to create work and then arranged the tools and materials in an organised installation style to present them as focal artwork. The actual pieces created during the residency were not exhibited.
