I focused on looking into natural light using a contrast of metallic and natural yarns/materials. I was interested in creating samples that gave the illusion of movement. In this project ‘Transforming Textiles’ initially inspired by the textiles designer Sophie Mallebranche, the rich colours and the use of metallic in her textiles was what I was attracted to. I mainly focused on two samples found in the Textile Department resource/archive and trying to achieve similar structures. I experimented using different yarns and materials that I had never used before along side natural yarns. My initial samples gave the impression of pleated fabric, this, and the extraordinary work of Ann Richards opened my mind to manipulating woven cloth. Moving into creating woven pleats seemed like a natural development.Although this was mainly an exploratory project, I see my samples being used for fashion fabrics.
