Tūtaki

  • Tevin Akinyemi

I co-founded a start-up called Tūtaki which primarily aimed to bring people closer together by using food as a tool to building meaningful friendships with each other. My team and I Identified the growing numbers of people who considered themselves lonely in London. We also realised how dire the situation was for international students studying in a city foreign to them. We set out to alleviate this issue. Similar to the style of the hit British TV show, come dine with me. Students around the capital would meet in a public space and each bring cuisine from their national countries and share it with their fellow students over a dinner table. Although Tūtaki was a mobile app, we prioritised a human connection above all , and so we decided for the mobile app to simply be an enabler to providing meaningful conversations between people. AWARDS .Tūtaki went on to win a business convention at the EY Foundation. (Ernest and Young) .Selected for the QMUL incubator programme and went on to finish in 3rd place. .Tūtaki later went on to be seed funded for £900.

WE RAN OUR FIRST EVENT...

Once our app launched, we invited the 5 users who first signed up to an event where they could meet new people and try new cuisines with each other.

Here are some images from the event...
My team and I designed brand murchandise that users could also purchase from either our app or during a meet up between other users.
