Underground Creative Spaces in Berlin

  • Abegayle Elmes

A study into the politics of underground creative spaces in Berlin. A bilingual publication so that German people can also be involved in the discussion I provoke in my dissertation. The gradient at the centre of the spine is to show the transition into these underground spaces. The images are all bitmapped bright red and pink to illustrate the bright flashes of light in these spaces. My illustrations are inspired from the mark makings people leave behind when they go to these spaces. The German translation is always strategically on the right and flipped upside down so you have to rotate the publication to access it, This was to visually represent how these underground creative spaces are secret and hard to get into. The German language contains much longer words that the English language This was illustrated by leaving the the German type hanging off the end as it is an important type design truth.
