Unknown Known is a 4K full dome video, produced in collaboration with Maria Euler and Yinan Song, with the great support of Michaela French, from the RCA Full Dome Research Group. The video was screened at the Greenwich Planetarium in January 2016.
Unknown Known is a short intriguing journey exploring the line between the scientific and geopolitical knowns and unknowns of our universe. Using the simultaneously optimistic, exciting and frightening idea of looking out into the stars, we combined scientific, political and philosophical speeches, that we subverted to make a cultural statement.
The visuals are derived from scientific diagrams and appear fundamentally abstract, but they play the role of these visual clues to set the mood and bait the viewer into a certain train of thought relative to starlight - before the narrative subverts with the famous Rumsfeld quote about the unknown known and the known unknown.
