Unpretentious is a collaboration between myself and Steve Speller, a photographer who lived on Redchurch Street, Shoreditch from 1986-1991.
Through observing the street using photography from the 1980's (taken by Steve) and 2014 (taken by myself), and using Steve's account of the street during the time he lived there, a pattern in trends has emerges. From the Breton strips of the customers, to the pared back, exposed light fixtures in the stores, it can be noted that Redchurch Street, through this recent period of transaction, still carries a unique style.
The book is formed of two parts - images and text, to be read simultaneously. Hand bound, foil blocked and letter-pressed by myself at London Centre for Book Arts.
