Untitled - exploration of female sensuality

Through my work, I want to break common female stereotypes and pressures I think a lot of girls in my generation have. In Western culture, we’ve had such a hyper sexualised display of women through the internet, social media, tv and film. However, almost every movie I watch in relation to young women and sex, the girl is either portrayed as too frigid or labelled as a slut. This consequently, causes these views to be a reality in day to day life, leading people to easily slut shame and objectifying women who show sexual confidence. This has led me to be extremely passionate about women having positive sexual freedom and to be able to express themselves in whatever way they desire without judgement. As I’m so involved within this topic, I believe it naturally conveys in my work. These mixed media collage experiments convey a lot of sexual feminine energy that is unapologetic. The silhouettes laying over the various images of the female figure in lingerie softens the artwork, this is very important to me as I want my artwork to come across as sensual, showing a woman’s natural sexual aura, not pornographic, as pornographic imagery stereotypically comes from a very male dominated industry.
