Guest Curator: V&A Friday Late
Where is the space for creativity in the city? In October 2019 the Friday Late headed beyond the museum walls to Hackney Wick, to explore how artists and designers are responding to the changing cityscape around them. Visitors took part in a pop-up creative studio to consider the transitory nature of physical space and experience performances about dwelling and displacement. They found out how creative communities are innovating, growing and claiming space in east London and beyond. This Friday Late was part of the pre-opening programme for the V&A East project – a new museum at Stratford Waterfront, and a collection and research centre at Here East, opening in 2023.
'Shake up the Museum' was a multimedia provocation featuring artists, activists and curators, and organised to think about a new museum manifesto and ‘Shake Up’ what a new museum can look like in East London. This event was held as part of the V&A Friday Late in Hackney Wick.

This event brought locals into Stour Space, a public gallery and community hub, to collaborate on a multimedia performance. I commissioned artists to showcase their work, and, as a New Museum School trainee at the time, recruited my peers to also conduct workshops for the event. Thus, I was not only spearheading the V&A Late programme along with the Creative Director, but also supporting New Museum School in advocating for fair access and representation of BAME artists, and creating opportunities for young under-represented creatives in the Museum sector.
