VEON is a international telecommunications and technology business with more than 235 million customers and the ability to serve more than ten percent of the world’s population. The rapidly-growing company launched its mobile platform earlier in 2017. Clever Boxer was briefed to programme and moderate the inaugural two day-long editorial conference for participants across all its territories, most of whom would be meeting for the first time. The objective was to train the participants to “curate and create shareable and snackable content” in the VEON tone of voice for the new mobile platform.
What we did
We first met with the Director of Editorial Content, David Kane, and the then Senior Editorial Content Manager, Ed Lomas, six weeks before the conference was to run. Building on their initial schedule, we established the objectives of the conference and programmed out a two day-long workshop of practical presentations from key staff, partners (including Getty and ZoominTV), and inspiring keynote speakers specialising in creating and curating content, including Shan McGinley (Snapchat and NIKE), Will Hudson (It’s Nice That), and Eddy Lawrence (The Guardian, Time Out, Short List). Our aim was to provide useful tools for content creation and curation, an understanding of VEON strategy, voice and work processes, as well as a measurable sense of being part of an international team.
We ran an intensive and exciting two days filled with practical exercises that culminated in groups scheduling a full day’s worth of content in just 90 minutes. The results of all talks and exercises, including areas for skills improvement, were fed back to VEON’s Director of Editorial Content.
