We’ve all heard the story. Ancient Greek scholar Archimedes steps into a bath and notices that the water level starts to rise, whereupon suddenly understanding that the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of the body being submerged. This led to the exclamation “Eureka” (roughly translated as ‘I’ve found it’), and has been synonymous with ground-breaking moments of discovery ever since.
