We are Tidal

  • Jenefer Odell

What if you wrote 20 poems, gave them to 20 artists and asked them to create art that slid right off the back of your words? This is what. Incredible artworks by the likes of Lily Mixe, Sprankenstein, Paul Camo, David Shillinglaw, Matt Odell, Claire de Lune, Marcelina Amelia, Babe Studio and Shopfloorwhore. Exhibited in Urchin Wines - Margate's booziest art space. Experiential edibles by Annie Nichols. Live performance by Valene Kane and Montserrat Lombard. Poetry by me.

Love Island
She’s crying on Love Island
Because he failed the lie detector
He might be tempted
By someone else.
Her mascara spits ink on her cheek
And it reaches the crease of her lip
Slowly, like chicken grease
She’s chewing on her own sense of worth.
I wish I was there
To catch it on the peak of my arched finger.
Look at me
I would say
I would cup her chin
The way we do
Before we lecture
Before we kiss.
We’re all just cells
Moving chemicals
You’ll want people too
As life unfurls its tender tongue
You’ll meet them and you’ll know
In another life
On another day
They could be that sweet soil smell on your sheets
That throb in your chest,
At the apex of your thigh
Necks craning anti clockwise
The hand on the small of your back
The copper crash of keen mouths.
Lust and lost
Separated only by a letter.
Desire is an unopened envelope
Hanging in the air
Between two people
Licked shut.
I sit on my hands sometimes
A stripper taught me that.
In my life
There’s so much paper
And there should be in yours
Classified post
Alive with all of the elements
And strung together seamlessly
Delivered, undelivered mail
The bunting of sexuality.
