To understand what is the nature of design process in creative and competitive industry. A concept of a ping pong/ table tennis game was adapted to reflect the meaning of Graphic Design.

Explanation: The minimum of 2 players is needed to play this game.
Player 1: A Graphic Design Practitioner
Player 2: A Graphic Design student in University of the Arts London
The ball: The ball is representing an idea.

How to play:

Toss the ball (idea) and serve to your opponent. The idea may be volleyed back and forth many times before it can be successful. You are allowed to move creatively around the table and there are no boundaries. However, you must be adaptable and spontaneous to what’s happening around you. Both players should bare in mind that whilst the idea is bouncing back and forth, the speed of the player when making the decision to implement the idea is crucial to determine the winner in this creative industry.

The type of strokes (strategies) that you’re going to take should come from the evaluation of your opponent’s movement. For example, if your opponent used an offensive stroke such as a smash, you might want to take a defensive stroke such as block to stay in the game.

To win or stay competitive in the game (industry), each player (designers) must take the risk to think outside the box. Remember that we can always learn from others in the industry. Both players should study one another’s strong points but adapting their own style to executing the idea.
