Images merely illustrative - a zine
this was a two weeks illustration project. after a lot of really interesting group discussions, each student had to come up with something that defined “what is illustration?”
At the end of the project, I came up with a zine called “images merely illustrative”, its purpose is to show that illustration is only illustration when it illustrates something. Sounds really stupid when said like this, but it does make sense. An illustration without a context (be it a text, a fact, an opinion or a word) is just a drawing.
This zine is a series of images. They are not connected to each other. And you might look at them at first and interpret them however you wish. But on the last page you do get a key, a list of words. One for each drawing. Making everything much clearer, the drawings become then illustrations and they communicate their respective word quite well, some of them even humorously.
