Graduate fashion collection - Death becomes her.

"Death Becomes her" was the title of my MDes graduate collection exploring the world of taxidermy. The approach was about the interactions between death and the recreation of the living. How an animal is put together to realize its living form and the process used to recreate it.,

Looking at the materials used inside taxidermy forms for a traditional point of view and covering them with the skins and pelts of dead animals. The collection looked at how that process could inform the construction of clothing and how that clothing then became the skin or pelt layer of the human wearing it. The construction playing with the shape of the outer layers.

I also used this theory of embellishment of the dead when exploring ideas of traditional couture embellishment. Replacing the traditional beading, crystals and couture details with natural components such as un polished quartz, ropes, canvas's and recycled second hand furs.
