The inspiration from this product came from Indonesian traditional temples in East Java. The layered from of the temples has potential as an innovative lamp shade, thus the idea behind "Wulan Lamp". The segmented lamp shade design provides a variation on where the shade is situated and further, the scope of light emitted. The lamp shade was designed in a compact and flexible manner, so it can be utilised as both a hanging as well as a standing lamp. The wooden cap material was chosen to embody a warm ambience, also as a representative of the red bricks from the traditional temple. Meanwhile, a variety of material can be used for the shade, ranging from canvas to wicker. The name "Wulan" was also chosen due to its Javanese definition of "The Moon" which is in line the product's lighting function.
