yr 4: Theseus' Ship & The Little Black Dress

"One is never overdressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress" Karl Lagerfeld. Just like the Ship of Theseus’ Paradox, the idea of the Little Black Dress goes beyond the physical dress. Over a course of almost 100 years, changing trends, emerging designers and much more; the Little Black Dress has seen dramatic changes. There has been changes in materials, hemline, shape, neckline etc. The style of the dresses have always been designed to reflect the rules and trends of the time, but has never changed is the essence of the dress. The Little Black Dress represents a constant. In relation to the ship of Theseus, just like the dress; although the fabrication and the materials may change, the function and the essence of the Ship remains; to carry Theseus across the sea to his adventures, and similarly the essence of the dress is that no matter the change in trend and year, the Little Black Dress will always be a symbol of a strong woman who can do and wear whatever she chooses.
