I work in the Editorial department as an assistant writing books and copy for clients such as ASOS, Urban Outfitters and Topshop. I also use my keen eye for detail in both text and design, when I am proofreading and copy-editing manuscripts. I have to be creative spark when it comes to writing books and pitching ideas for new concepts. I have a flexible tone and I understand how important tone is when it comes to who you are writing for. Another side to my job is researching. This is essential for understanding the market you are aiming at and ultimately helps to define subject matter, content areas and tone. Picture research is also essential for marketing: knowing trends in cover design and inside page designs too. I have recently finished a book on beauty.
I worked as a reporter on the news desk setting up interviews and writing articles for the weekly paper. While here I honed in on an informative unbiased style that appealed to a wide readership. Working at the paper I developed a sense of how important style and tone is when appealing to/selling to an audience.
