- FervourThere is often a pessimistic prejudgement of young relationships in the twenty first century where often the simplicity of young love is over looked. Photographing high school sweet hearts in there twenties freezes the relationship at an intimate, tender, overwhelming moment filled with desire that is then forever immortalised in the image. These portraits encompass two people in an intense part of their life where nothing else seems to matter apart from the other person. Perhaps young people rely on their relationships to ease the burden of the frightening time ahead that is adolescence. Finding support in another person makes the journey easier; they will not judge but instead share the experiences. Some may be together for a long time and others not so long. Divorce is no longer looked at as taboo as the sanctity of marriage and traditional notions of romance hold less importance than they once did. Irrespective of the time spent in each relationship these photographs will forever act as a reminder of the people they were when they were young and together. Images act as a souvenir; perhaps more so when love becomes complex between two people. Youth become a treasure as people grow up; the two-dimensional visual recreation stored in albums or hung on the wall from our past becomes sacred. After all, a person can only have one first love.
