  • AZ'THEKE (PACKAGING PROJECT)
AZ'THEKE (PACKAGING PROJECT)AY CARAMBA! »Deep in the jungle of the naschmarkt, South American specialties meet the Austrian jaus'n!« In the semester project »package design« at the New Design University in St. Pölten, I worked with Karoline Kirner on the fusion of two cultural heritages. The starting point of the theme was the "Amster Pro" (2015) by the Chilean type designer Francisco Gálvez, to which a product series should be developed. The font contains a rich set of ornaments, which reminded the students immediately of fabric and embroidery patterns from the alpine region. In the course of the research there were further similarities in the folkloristic patterns of the two cultural circles. This was the inspiring idea for the product idea: a colorful mix of Austrian and South American delicacies marketed under the brand name "az'theke" - an allusion to the shop counter as a meeting point. The Viennese Naschmarkt was conceived as an ideal place to sell, which takes the streetfood idea of the product line into play. The connecting idea flows into the illustrations in which Aztec masks, which form a substantial part of the corporate identity, as well as Austrian elements of the costume. They were screen printed on handmade paper. Linguistic emphasis was also placed on fusion, such as the soft drink "¡hola! Holler "or" ludmillas tortillas ". From the world of the Aztecs originate product names such as "popocaté brett'l" or "chichén spritzer". The advertising posters mirror the concept idea with the division into a South American and an Austrian half. This project is gonna be published in the Novum Magazine soon!
