About me
But first things first. Nice to meet you. I am Alexa and I used to be a copywriter. Don't get me wrong, secretly I still hope I'll publish a book someday and I still take shy pride in recognizing good writing. I just stopped writing for a living. 5 years ago, I traded words for images and decided to invest my time, my undivided attention and my upcoming years - decades, who knows? - in graphic design. It seemed like a risky gamble at the time, but my life was instantly turned upside-down. In a great way. You probably want to know more about my work/work ethics. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to details (just think about the staggering action of perfectly cutting out hair in Photoshop, and you'll get what I'm saying), I very much enjoy researching for a project (always willing to transform my workspace in a perpetual, ever-growing moodboard), I will happily debate for hours on concepts, approaches and styles. In a permanent struggle with OCD, I've conquered the monster and put it to good use - hence, discipline and high levels of colour coding, organising, naming files and folders (I confess, it's not an easy job handling all the "version_1", "version_1.1, "final_version", "final.final_version" elements of a designer's life). I mainly wear black, white and grey, but will forever be in love with strong colours. I'm blaming this on contemporary jewellry. My typeface of choice is usually a bold, powerful one, balanced out by a thin, sleek and elegant counterpart. I strongly believe that graphic design can be an effective business tool. However, I don't think it's just about numbers, and cold hearted charts and statistics. Focusing too much on the pure practical, we tend to forget about the beauty of the form. And maybe that's the reason why we are surrounded by so much ugliness, why we purposefully accept to "get lost" in a sea of seamlessness and we are worshipping at the altar or pure functionality. I am an advocate for beautiful - visually pleasing images, that also happen to bear a strong meaning, be it lighthearted, silly and entertaining or serious and brutally honest. To put this in the more eloquent words of Sagmeister & Wash, "...beauty means reaching beyond what just works or is pretty; beauty is the dose of humanity that makes our lives better". This self-portayal part should end right about now, assuming that you actually had the required patience to go through this nano-novel. For which I thank you deeply. If any of this caught your interest or sparked a small doses of curiosity, and if matching my profile with the one you are looking for, you found that they rather overlap, my contact info is just a few clicks away :)
