My time at BBC Bristol ranged from assisting with research and archiving on a number of Network Radio programmes to undertaking administrative tasks for Production Coordinators and Producers within the Arts offices. I also took part in two broadcasts outside of Bristol, one an Outside Broadcast of Any Questions? on location in Calne, Wiltshire and the other taking place at Broadcasting House in London - following an invitation from the Producer Eleanor Garland after some internal email correspondence, I shadowed the Woman’s Hour team for a day, observing the morning Broadcast and then assisting with research and administration in the afternoon. Other programmes included: A History of Ideas, The Food Programme, Poetry Please, Great Lives, A Good Read. In addition, I supported a Producer in the early stages of development of an Afternoon Documentary on rented accommodation in Germany, and contributed my voice for a literary reading as part of a One-Off Documentary on the poet William Barnes. I found the entire experience to be both highly enjoyable and extremely stimulating. I was offered a unique opportunity to develop my great passion for radio and feel as though that I learnt a great deal. I am keen to develop this experience into a more solid foundation for a future career in production.
